I took a visit to Haalem on Saturday, a small city just outside of Amsterdam, and it was absolutely gorgeous. On Saturdays it’s the market day and the town square is completely full of stalls selling everything, from the most amazing baked goods to gorgeous hand crafted lights.
When you walk through Haarlem you feel like you’re so far away from Amsterdam but really you’re one train stop away. It’s nothing like the touristy, busy streets of Amsterdam city centre with steak houses and chip stalls on every corner. The main high street is gorgeous and been voted the best shopping in the Netherlands, and coming off it are tiny little side streets with arches covered in foliage and lovely plants all the way down.
Even when the heavens opened and there was a big thunder storm on us it was still beautiful.
